What Makes Ketra Different
Most “smart” lighting systems can dim — some can change color temperature between warm and cool white. Lutron Ketra does something fundamentally different: it uses five independent light sources per fixture (red, green, blue, warm white, and cool white) to achieve true spectral accuracy at any color temperature and intensity.
This means Ketra can produce 2700K warm white at full brightness, 2700K warm white at 1% dimming, and have them look identical in color — something conventional dimmers cannot do. As fixtures dim, conventional LEDs shift in color. Ketra maintains spectral consistency at every level.
The Circadian Science Behind Ketra
Dr. Satchin Panda’s research at the Salk Institute established that light is the primary signal regulating the human circadian clock. Morning exposure to blue-enriched light (high color temperature, >5000K) activates cortisol production and sets the circadian clock for the day. Evening exposure to warm light (low color temperature, <2700K) allows natural melatonin production and prepares the body for sleep.
Conventional smart lighting can approximate this — Ketra achieves it with scientific accuracy. GWI programs Ketra systems around each client’s schedule, location, and season — creating a dynamic light environment that actively supports biology throughout the day.
Ketra + Wave of Wellness™
In GWI’s Wave of Wellness™ platform, Lutron Ketra is the primary tool for circadian environment design. The Circadian Engine — built on Dr. Panda’s research — drives Ketra scenes that respond to sunrise, sunset, seasonal daylight changes, and the occupant’s personal biometric data from Oura Ring or Apple Health.
