Professional AV Calibration in Los Angeles
Your theater looks and sounds exactly as the director intended — or it doesn’t. GWI makes sure it does.
Schedule a ConsultationWhy Calibration Is the Difference Between Good and Reference
A $200,000 home theater with an uncalibrated display and speaker system sounds like a $20,000 setup. Conversely, a well-calibrated $80,000 system can rival theaters costing three times as much. Professional AV calibration — using measurement equipment, room correction software, and trained ears — is the final step that transforms an installation into a reference experience. GWI employs ISF-certified display calibrators and Dolby Atmos-trained audio engineers.
Display Calibration (ISF)
Our ISF-certified technician uses a spectrophotometer and CalMAN software to profile your projector or display to D65 white point, Rec.709/P3 color gamut, and accurate gamma. The difference is visible immediately.
Dirac Live Room Correction
GWI uses Dirac Live audio measurement software to capture impulse response at multiple listening positions, then applies FIR filters to the processor for time-aligned, room-corrected sound across all channels.
Speaker Placement Optimization
Dolby Atmos and DTS:X height channel placement is as critical as the horizontal array. GWI measures and adjusts speaker angles, distances, and levels to spec before Dirac correction is applied.
Reference-Grade Validation
After calibration, GWI validates against reference test patterns (Spears & Munsil, Portrait Displays test disc) and known film content. We don’t hand off a theater until it passes our internal reference standard.
What a GWI Calibration Session Includes
A GWI AV calibration session typically takes 4–8 hours for a full Dolby Atmos theater. It includes display ISF calibration, Dirac Live room correction across all seats, speaker level and delay verification, bass management optimization, and a client walkthrough demonstrating the before/after difference. For existing theaters built by other integrators, GWI offers standalone calibration services — we frequently inherit systems where calibration was never performed.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is ISF calibration?
ISF (Imaging Science Foundation) calibration is a professional display calibration standard. An ISF-certified technician uses measurement hardware and software to set accurate color, gamma, and white balance on your projector or TV.
What is Dirac Live?
Dirac Live is a room correction system that measures your speaker system’s impulse response at multiple positions and applies digital filters to correct for room acoustics, speaker timing, and frequency response. It dramatically improves bass definition and imaging.
How often should a home theater be calibrated?
Projectors should be recalibrated every 1,000–2,000 lamp hours as color shifts with age. Room correction should be re-run if speakers or room furniture move significantly.
Does GWI calibrate theaters it didn’t install?
Yes. GWI offers standalone AV calibration services for theaters installed by other integrators. Contact us to schedule a calibration assessment.
